Even my daughter Emma thought I'd lost my mind when I suggested taking over an olive grove š« 30 minutes from the nearest village.
The obstacles were numerous:
1ļøā£ The drought, already very present in Andalusia, risks worsening with climate change;
2ļøā£ Who says mountains says sloping terrain and therefore the impossibility of entering with a tractor in ā of the farm;
3ļøā£ Erosion has left only a thin layer of earth on the southern slopes
4ļøā£ ⦠and at over 600 meters above sea level the winters are cold with negative temperatures
But most importantly⦠Iām not a farmer ā š . My latest job is developing software
Yet the arguments in favor of this abandoned olive grove arouse in me an enthusiasm that outweighs the challenges ahead:
ā”ļø This is the perfect place to demonstrate that regenerative agriculture can recreate life āļø in the soil.
ā”ļø Doing this demonstration is enough to motivate me every morning š
ā”ļø There are solutions to restore water cycles š¦ - even in regions facing desertification.
ā”ļø Olive oil is delicious and good for your health!
And if we also take on this challenge as a family, it's pure happiness š
The nearest village is Pozoblanco. The people there are charming. Curious, or at least intrigued, they keep asking me kindly, āBut what brings you here?ā
